John Francis Johnson

John Francis "Shorty" Johnson, Jr., 91, passed away Friday, January 29, 2010 at Riverview Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born December 23, 1918 in Liberty County, GA to the late John F. Johnson, Sr. and Clara Caswell Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Marjorie Flanders Johnson, sisters, Eleanor Johnson Edwardy and Gloria Johnson Knight.
He was a graduate of Benedictine Military School, class of 1938 and a World War II Combat Veteran. He retired from the A&P Supermarkets and worked for Geothe Distributing Company, the Army Corps of Engineers and Amusement Pros. He was a longtime member of Cokesbury United Methodist Church.
He is survived by sons, Gary Johnson and wife Sheila, Tim Johnson and wife Jolie, daughters, Vicki Johnson, and Kim Williams and husband Bob. Grandchildren, Brian Williams, Lauren Johnson Brunson and husband Patrick, Sarah Johnson, Timothy Johnson and Michael Johnson. Great-grandchildren, John Patrick Brunson and James Peyton Brunson. He is also survived by his brother, Thomas William Johnson and his sister, Margaret Mary Reddick and many loving brother-in-laws, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, January 31, 2010 at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 1, 2010 at Cokesbury United Methodist Church with Rev. Michael Myers and Rev. Patrick O'Brien, officiating.
Burial will be in Bonaventure Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Benedictine Military School, Class of 1938, 6502 Seawright Drive, Savannah, GA 31406 or Cokesbury United Methodist Church, 5411 Skidaway Road, Savannah, GA 31406.

I didn't know John but I have seen his name in my 'Taylor's Creek' book. My grandfather, James Robert Caswell, was Clara's brother. I heard my grandfather talk of Clara many times during my childhood. I am sorry for your loss.
